Story behind the song
This is a song I've been wanting to write for a long time, helping to make peace with some things from my past. Here it is! This is a rough version with voice and guitar only - I plan to redo it and add more instruments soon.
Dandelion picture taken by Petr Kratochvil.
Lyrics
Dandelion, dandelion with your golden hair,
Waving at the heavens like you just don’t care
Dandelion, dandelion what you’re doing to me,
Come on dandelion, hear my plea,
Won’t you please be dandy, honey, set me free
I spent so many hours in the summer sun,
Searching all the flowers found the perfect one
Picked her up and hoped she’d always be around
But in my innocence I let her hit the ground
Well, one day dandelion seemed to have enough
The next time I came callin’, that’s when things got rough
My vision started swimmin’, felt like I couldn’t breathe
Kinda got to thinkin’ it was time to leave
My dandelion, dandelion with your golden hair,
Waving at the heavens like you just don’t care
Dandelion, dandelion what you’re doing to me,
Come on dandelion, hear my plea,
Won’t you please be dandy, honey, set me free
With the changing seasons came our separate ways,
She floated down the highway I came out of my haze
Through the winter winds I thought I’d be alright
Until the April showers brought her back in to sight
Time enough had passed, perhaps we could be friends?
When I tried to pick her up she sent me spinning again
Instead of turning ‘round I flat refused to go
I found that I could stay if she was under my toe
Of course it wasn’t cool, the things I did to you
As I began to understand, I grew into a better man
Now I know that making peace with her has left me feeling alright
Smiling when she’s near instead of getting uptight
But through all the years I have come to find
That she is never far from my mind
Dandelion, dandelion with your golden hair,
Waving at the heavens like you just don’t care
Dandelion, dandelion what you’re doing to me,
Come on dandelion, I said come on dandelion
Dandelion, dandelion with your golden hair,
Waving at the heavens like you just don’t care
Dandelion, dandelion what you’re doing to me,
Won't you please be dandy, honey, set me free
I said won’t you please be dandy, honey, set me free
