Story behind the song
After spending some time in Japan I realized just how beautiful the Array mbira and the Japanese Koto sounded together. The koto is generally played in a very traditional way and finding a player that could improvise well and that was actually into innovation was very fortunate considering the language and cultural barriors. We recorded several pieces during the winter of 2007 in a small mountain town while snow fell on the Cedars just outside the window and steam rose from the nearby hot springs. The scene in itself was enough to inspire more than music.
