Story behind the song
This is a trippy little poem that I had written a long time ago. I'm not sure how I got started, but for some reason I was on some metaphoric imagery kick at the time when I wrote this. It's about spirituality and religion, told through the use of time as an image. Trippy. At some point along the way I decided to put these words to music, and got started on this recording. I had a lot of fun with all the vocal parts, and building the harmonies. For the background vocals, I left the mic stationary and actually moved to different spots for each take so that when it was all spliced together, it would really feel like there was a full choir standing there singing. I tried multiple versions of the song with various forms of percussion, but none of them came out how I wanted them to sound. I really wanted to have a cool hand drum part going in the background, but I never could get it to sound right. I tried using sequenced samples, and I tried doing live takes with different drums that I had lying around the studio, but it never panned out. I did keep the shaker track. That one was just too rippin' to not have it in there. LOL!
Lyrics
There’s a clock on the wall so many eyes Are looking to, to keep their time Voices that won’t deny Mysteries designed to hide that Inner face we’ve never seen Despite it all I still believe that The time we keep tells the time And shows the spirit of our minds... Oooh, the time will arrive Yes, the time will arrive When it's time... There’s a clock in my room I choose to wind With no double meanings left to find Changing hands may change my time But if I’m late no one minds It's the moving hands that have set me free And through it all I still believe that The time we keep tells the time Showing the spirit of our minds... Oooh, the time will arrive Yes, the time will arrive When it's time...
