I believe the song explains itself. He is the Rose of Sharon, but, there was blood on the Rose.

He is the Rose of Sharon. The Bright and Morning Star. He is the King of Heaven. The Living Word of God. But, outside the gates of Jerusalem on the very day they chose. He was crucified for the sins of man. There was blood on the Rose. He looked down at the hammer stained crimson red. Shame and guilt took hold of him, then he bowed his head. He said, " Lord, please forgive me for this thing I have done." With tears in his eyes, he raised his head and saw the cross and God's own son. There was blood on the Rose that day at Calvary. An old rugged cross He chose to show His love for you and me. And when He cried, " It is finished! " Now all of heaven knows, He is the King of Heaven. But, there was blood on the Rose. BRIDGE... They heard, " Father, please forgive them. For they know not what they do. " When that prayer was said at Calvary, it was said for me and you. We did not use a hammer. No rusty nails to hold. But, we put Him on that rugged cross. At the thought, my blood runs cold. There was blood on the Rose that day at Calvary. An old rugged cross He chose to show His love for you and me.
