A Father daughter Dance Song
Father/Daughter wedding song
Hi I'm really a poet who has had people put music to my poetry. Often I know and sing the tune but I play no instraments....does that make sence?

Story behind the song
My name is Eric Johnson and I'm a high school teacher in New Jersey, I also fancy myself a bit of a poet and song writer. About 13 years ago, I was with my wife at a beautiful hotel when she commented, "I'd love to have our daughter's weddings in a place like this!" The next day that thought kept playing in my head...although they were only 5 and 3 at the time. I started thinking about what would be the "father/daughter" song that we would dance to. I felt that many were very nice but also very over done. So that day, I sat in a construction lane closer (I worked on the highway back then!) and put paper to pen. The words and the tune came easily, as though the song had always been written in my soul and I was simply reading it. At the time, I casually knew a man who was a musician and asked him to record my song, just so I could hear someone else singing it. It was just what I wanted! This was the song that I would dance with my daughters to at their weddings! The only problem was.. the quality was poor, there was a bad ground and a hiss so he was going to re-record it. With-in a week, he packed up in the middle of the night and moved...Later I found out that he was running from the IRS and some other collection company. He left no forwarding address.
Lyrics
I Wish We Could Go Back To Yesterday Copyright Eric Johnson Today I walked my daughter down the isle And I gave my little girl away I did my best to hide What I was feeling inside That I wished we could go back to yesterday When I close my eyes I see it all so clear She'd be whispering silly secrets in my ear Then her Momma would walk in and give us both a grin And laugh and say, what's going on in here! ~~~~~~~~~~~ CHORUS What happened to the little girl I tucked in bed each night The one who'd greet me at the door and hug me oh so tight I love the woman she's become today But I wish we could go back to yesterday ~~~~~~~~~~~ All the good times I thought they'd never end She'd be playing hide and seek with all her friends Now she's a vision dressed in white Still I'd ask him to tonight If father time could take us back again ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ REPEAT CHORUS What happened to the little girl I tucked in bed each night The one who'd greet me at the door and hug me oh so tight I love the woman she's become today But I wish we could go back to yesterday God I wish we could go back to yesterday
