Story behind the song
Wyoming is a more complex "Progressive" piece. The first part of the lyrics came to me in 2006 and it took about 2 years for me to build the song around the very first Idea. The imagery and story of the song cames from Psalm 63 "Early I will seek thee in Dry and Weary Land where there is no water..." When I thought of the desolation described here I remembered my Dad and I driving to Mt. Rushmore together and we drove through the eastern part of Wyoming where there's really not much and the wind sweeps across the plains. This Snow storm hit and for miles in all directions was nothing but white on the ground and in the sky and I couldn't tell the two apart. Wyoming is actually a very beautiful place. The Wyoming in the song is more like a state of mind Because when i think of a desolate wilderness like in psalms thats what i think of. The snowy white void.
Lyrics
I’ve been wandering and yes, this land is desolate In endless fields of dirt I cannot find my home Cause even in the summer time the driving snow blinds my eyes Freezing all water de-voiding all life Yes I came out here to find my hearts desire But all these Shining things do nothing but to weigh me down I realize my only treasure is found within your eyes, After walking barefoot through all these miles and miles and miles. Chorus: Enter through a hole in the snow fence It closes behind I can see the plains burning Begging for an ounce of water on their tongues But will you sustain me? Here in Wyoming. A dry and weary land, early I seek your face Where the water falls but none lands I will thirst for you Your love is better than the greatest life I can hope to live So I will lift my hands Chorus Bridge: If I traveled far, if I left my home If I followed the tracks just to reach you alone When I needed help when I needed life When you picked me up you raised me high When I drop my bags and I reach for you And you welcome me inside.
