Story behind the song
Brian: I wrote a short called "Investigating the Death of Barnaby Hightower at the Lighthouse in Majestic Bluff", which was a take on the old-time radio shows from the 40's and 50's. It revolves around a police interrogation, and one of the listening detectives is the person singing this song as an aside. It moves quickly from retrospection to the present, and then leads ultimately to his death.
Lyrics
I remember your voice from when I was a boy you called to me, beckoned me I always dreamt seeing my name bouncing from your lips to touch the sky but no matter how far I went no matter how hard I tried despite my tear-filled cries and pleas you wouldn't show yourself to me Now with this brand-new revelation after all these years have come and gone I hear your name spring from a stranger's lips and a long-dead fire comes bursting out of me Because no matter how far I went no matter how hard I tried despite my tear-filled cries and pleas you wouldn't show yourself to me so here I am again a slave to a stupid childish fantasy that deep-rooted need to hear your voice, seek its course, see its source... Why won't you come to me? Why won't you let me see? Why won't you sing to me? Why won't you let me be? Now here I stand, head in hands so desperately seeking, so desperately needing you near, needing you here to comfort, to warm to revel in your form and as the waves crash below me, you show me I hear you calling me again... ... and I will follow.
