Story behind the song
Prior to laying down the final vocal tracks, Paul and I are trying to work out all the various parts of this song from the words to the music. Are we getting closer? We added another verse and a bridge, and Paul did some changes to the music and mixing. What do you think?
Lyrics
Tug O’ War Terrill Coggins & Paul Curtis © 2001, 2008 (Verse 1) We fight this fight Not expecting to win. We win some ground Then we lose it all again We take, we give Never reaching for the prize. We learn to live But we never realize… (Chorus) Just what we’re fighting for. Back and forth In this tug o’ war. One day hot, then cold again. Back and forth And no one wins. (Verse 2) We say these words Then take them back. They find their place And the pain seeps through the cracks. We cry, we laugh Not sure just what the joke was. We say we’re fine we’ve lost our focus. Verse 3 You push, I pull Strong show of force All give, all take How did we get off course? Who won, who lost, We ran up the score. What’s left with dreams Are shattered on the floor? Bridge You stare me down In the wake of these emotions. Another storm Is brewing out in the ocean
