Story behind the song
Joy gave me a number of poems that she had written and this one stood out as something special. I changed a few of the words around to transform it into more of a song format. Joy liked the new creation and it became the first collaboration for both of us.
Lyrics
Amen Is it so strange that someone like me As brittle as an autumn leaf And as fragile as the hope that keeps us dreaming Could still find color in the sky And feel the things I feel at night See visions of your face and keep believing I feel a flower touch my skin Your finger runs along my chin I hear your laugh and I drink it in I may be broken but I’m still alive, Amen, Amen I may be broken but I’m still alive, Amen, Amen The teacups you gave me years ago The things you showed me that I did not know Like how love can move both fast and slow Sadly that all happened long ago All that’s left of the stories that we told Is the poetry that we wrote to make us whole Now what do others see in me I feel gray and hollow as an old oak tree In a forest filled with memories of you But sometimes if I’m very still And if I pray and if God wills You’re back with me and your poetry fills me I may be broken but I’m still alive, Amen, Amen Words and music by Joy Owen and Billy Gee © 2006, Billy Gee, Joy Owen - All rights reserved
