MONKEY CHILD is a rock band playing music written by founder Chuck Clawson and keyboardist Dave Bauer. Monkey Child is also an aggressively indie songwriter collaboration that keeps its chops sharp as a local bar and party band. We play a lot of very different covers on a three or four set night. With bassist and singer Mark Byrd 's influence on arrangements, and exceptionally solid licks on the p-bass, MONKEY CHILD's sound has been compared to John Hiatt, John Mellencamp, The Doobie Brothers, Van Morrison and Ryan Adams. We call what we do alt.roots, but that's OUR name for it. We've been labeled heartland, americana, and pop-rock. Whatever it is, we write, play, and produce it ourselves. This is a pretty long-lived project. We've been working together close to five years now and plan to continue. Portions of our next album are already recorded. Dave and Chuck continue to write new material, and we continue to gig. Thanks for reading, and please enjoy "The Long Shot."

Story behind the song
I finally, after 15 years, wrote a song for my wife. This song started years ago while noodling around in Kent, Ohio with the late Patty Donahoe of the Waitresses.
Lyrics
Met her in a Goodwill store she was trying on hats That was fifteen years ago, now look where I'm at She was crazier than dogbite man, a loony in a summer frock Now our kids are crazy too, we've got the happiest house on the block Don't turn your porch light on I don't need to be seen You're not the kind of girl a boy like me should see If you keep this up everyone will know about me A whole lot of water has passed under all the bridges that I've burned These days I just hang around the house waiting for the milk to turn She and I sit side by side on the front porch every night Watching the kids and the cars go by And I always leave on the light Don't turn your porch light on I don't need to be seen You're not the kind of girl a boy like me should see If you keep this up everyone will know about me It took me so long to find That kind of peace of mind... Now I leave my porch light on, the light shines every night I get happy when I get home and all of that light feels right I get to watch my children play as the evening closes in Everywhere I go today is better than where I've been Turn your porch light on I need to be seen You're just the kind of girl a boy like me should see You kept it up and everyone knows about me

I gave this a 5. Just a cool song. I'd love to hear it on the radio.

Bruce meets Hiatt meets Van the Man. Seems like the stops would make dancing tricky. I like the twist at the end...
