Lyrics
Everyday I hear them closing the steel doors where I live I remember when mine were made of wood But now thats just a place I can't get to anymore But I'd sure go back there If I could Yeah...I'd go back there if I could When Your riding shotgun with the devil Some things you do can't be undone Regrets won't clean the mess you made And sorry ain't enough Cause you can't put the bullet back in the gun I wish I'd listened to my momma...when she'd pray for me all night But I was walking into darkness ....far away from the light I could blame the pills and the whiskey...say it wasn't my right mind But I know there are no accidents when you choose to cross that line And I chose to cross that line When Your riding shotgun with the devil Some things you do can't be undone Regrets won't clean the mess you made And sorry ain't enough Cause you can't put the bullet back in the gun Amazing Grace Come and carry me away

Wow Greg, all I can say is that the competition must be pretty tough over at alt. country. This is terrific. A very powerful and engaging piece, which, despite the sparse instrumentation, is compelling throughout. Warmest regards, Marc

Reminds me of a cross between Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan with a writing assist from Merle Haggard. The guitar here is basic (or spartan), the vocals are compact as well (but done nicely, and genre specific). But the lyrics are what this song is all about! An excellent song!
