Story behind the song
I wrote the music about 3 years ago but couldn't think of any words. I played it to a friend and he suggested the title Golden Dreams but left the lyrics up to me. That night I was subjected to a god awful celebrity show on TV that got me thinking about the effect that these people are having on our culture, hence the song
Lyrics
Come, come follow me Down the avenue of golden dreams You cannot hide however hard you try The wonderlust that's in your eyes Oh so stylish people stylish drinks in stylish bars And love affairs that brightly blaze burn for a while then fade away All fade away For nothing lasts forever when it comes to their endeavours It's simply about today it's a bad sign when you've got to stay the same When you can afford to change yourself to someone else And say please look at me Oh won't someone please look at me I'm a creature of my own design A perfect symbol of our time My face on the front page causing incandescent rage In those who miss the news and ask themselves What the hell is it you do Still there's nothing you can do to satisfy their lust for fame It's all the same if you love them or you hate them They don't care cos at least you know they're there It's not what's in your press it's just the weight Oh but how I'll wait for the day When the revolution comes and they are finally swept away No more fifteen minutes of fame With office talk thats not inane When it's my dentist not his waiting magazines that give me pain Don't want to watch you making love While stumbin drunk out of some club Don't worry bout whats in their heads Worry about yourself instead Oh I don't want to know there names But somehow they have got into my brain And I feel so violated I assure you that my standards remain high You can't escape it though however hard you try Oh but how I'll wait for the day When the revolution comes and they are finally swept away No more fifteen minutes of fame Half going up half down again When it's my mortgage not the whores on page six Damaging my brain Don't want to watch you making love While stumbin drunk out of some club Don't worry bout whats in their heads Worry about yourself instead
