Bands start for many reasons: girls, drugs, free booze. Subjective Well Being merely wanted Pop Tarts.
Hi. We were Subjective Well Being, a three piece rock band from Hot Springs Village, AR. Even though we are no longer active, we are leaving this page up so that if anyone ever come across these tunes, they can still take a listen. We still check back here every once and awhile, so leave us a comment or a note and tell us what you think. Thanks for ten years of rock and roll!

Story behind the song
BEN: This is my favorite Subjective Well Being, bar none. Russ had the bass part from the Summer Project, where it appears all Subjective Well Being ideas come from, but like "Recent Newsreel Footage" just didn't work to well. But it sounded good and when it came time for us to write songs for what would become "Transmissions", we came back to it. Looking back at this song, I find it weird how little I had to do with it. Russ helped me write both the verse and chorus because I couldn't quite figure it out. When it came to the breakdown we had no idea, so we did what we always did: wee played it for Taylor and we just went totally ape sh** . Out of any of our breakdowns this is our best. It just explodes out of the speakers. Lyrically, well, I was reading a lot of Kafka at the time, so I based all my lyrics that I wrote for this record on the idea of becoming something that you don't want to be. I wrote these pretty quickly because, if I remember correctly, neither Russ nor I had been assigned the lyrics for this song and the record needed to be done so I just did it. I do not have any idea if Russ ever tried to write lyrics for it or not. Also, my scream in this song is terrible. I am not fully sure if Russ left it in to piss me off, but if he did, that's pretty awesome. Russ also mixed this song and did a great job, I think. That breakdown seriously sounds amazing. RUSS: This was probably one of the easiest songs to come together in practice. We basically just played the song and all the pieces fell together. The only thing extra added to this song during recording was the atmospheric keyboards. The original intent I had for the mix on this was that it would be kind of like the culmination of all the old "bombastic" "moody" "dark" SWB songs from prior records. And I think it definitely achieves being moody, dark, and bombastic. I nearly blow my load every time I hear that moment of near-perfection on the breakdown with the keys/bass/noise-guitar/drama-drums harmony.
