MDS Reckless est. 1995.
In da summer of 1995, MDS Reckless was established under hard times and bad circumstances. Given to you by the words of MDS (Quik): see at the time I was going through some family problems n sh** me and my moms wasn't seeing eye to eye so she told me to leave, and that night I was walking around the streets just thinkin' of what I was gonna do. Then I seen someone sittin' outside their house smoking. (GL): I was kickin' it outside my pad n I seen Quik walk by I knew who he was from school n all but we never really spoke so I hit em up where you going man? (Quik): I heard someone say "where you going?" n I was like who's dat? so I walked closer to the house and I seen GL, I didn't really know the guy. But we choped it up n smoked a blunt and the rest was history.
(Quik): One day I seen GL writin' some sh** in his notebook n I was like whatcha doing homie? his was like rappin. I was like for real I be doing dat sh** too. (GL): Me and Quik started writing and I'd freestyle. At first, Quik couldn't freestyle so I'd help him out and he caught on to the flow. So late dat year we started recording at my house on some old ass tape to tape recorder with a bulit in mic at the top, I'd spit then Quik would spit after me. The new ways cool but back then doing a whole song in one take keeps you on your toes. So by the next year we recorded about 8 songs "Da Demo 96-97'" and I cut out some paper and pasted da sh** together and we was at my cousins house in fresno and he was like how did you guys do that sh** and I was like MYDAMNSELF!!!!
(Quik): I loved the way he said that sh** like MYDAMNSELF!!!! haha!!!! we kept it we made it our name MDS is MyDamnSelf and Reckless is because we're Record Less we don't belong to no label. So all through out high school we'd record but we'd never show it to no one we just did it cause it was something we loved doing. Then, about our senior year of high school our good friend Lok'E joined us and my brotha Uneek did some production for us on the "VP" album. but after high school things changed GL joined the Marine Corps. but he'd still come up ever now and then and bust some freestyles at our parties and record here and there. That year I put together his "Occurences" album together while he was gone. In 2000, Lok'E also decided to join the Marine Corps. A year later I joined the Marine Corps as well. (GL): While Quik was gone I was still on it flowing, writing, freestyling just trying to build my flow. And I started building a better studio at my house. (Quik): When I was stationed in N.C. I kinda let my rap go for a while but I hooked up with Luciano from the Durty Norf Boyz. We'd freestyle and we even recorded a song together. (GL): In 2005, I started recording the "Live N Dis Muthaf^*#!@ Mixtape" while Quik was in Iraq. And he'd send me freestylez from over there. (Quik): when I returned home in Oct '05 I was ready to jump right back into the studio. After we recorded it for some reason we still felt that it was good but it wasn't up to par. So we didn't push the mixtape, but we sat back and looked at this here like we do ever year. The Mixtapes progress every year. And now we're ready to give to Valley and hip hop equiped with our bangin' new producer G-Twist. Got me, GL, Lok'E, Stylez, Airk more production in the works from Uneek and it's on and running now we believe we have more and more to give . This is real hip-hop from the valley for the valley this is us.....MDS Reckless.
