Story behind the song
During an Ashcat practice session sometime in the late 1990's, John plays D C G Country Style and Bill spits out words on the spot...lucky for us we were taping that practice! 3 of the 4 verses are virtually the same as what Bill made up spontaneously. John sorted it all out and added the chorus and another verse the next day and it was done. Jim and Rob and I play the song in our live set and we pulled it out when we were recording for the Macabre project.
Lyrics
Help Me Lord Once I had a woman and I loved her oh so dear One day I looked in her eyes and all I saw was fear She was through with me right then though I didn't know Pretty soon I figured out that it was time to go So I'm movin' on Lord I'm movin' on I've been a lot of places, walked along a lot of shores But you know I've never seen anybody score Even now I close my eyes, I'm never going home On and on this endless road you know I've got to roam So I'm movin' on Lord I'm movin' on I haven't seen her for awhile and I've wondered how its been But I don't know what day it is or what town I'm in People talk about me and they say that I'm a fool I know what they say is true but I still love you Help me Lord Won't you help me Lord People say you've got to feel it deep down in the blues Well I've been used and I am sick and tired of paying dues I know what it's all about though it may not show Won't you let me come inside, open up your door Help me Lord Won't you help me Lord
