Story behind the song
High New England Snow (John Small, Mike Zito) About the song: High New England Snow was written by singer / songwriters John Small and Mike Zito. They wanted to write about the true meaning of Christmas and to remind folks to take a step back and not worry so much about the pressures and deadlines we put on ourselves to buy gifts. We were all given a gift of true sacrifice and pure love - that's what we wanted to say when we wrote this song. The title was inspired by the beautiful scenery here in New England during the Christmas season. About the songwriters: Mike Zito is an accomplished musician playing quite a few instruments, at one time he played bass for the band “Grand Junction”, and he has done various solo work. He has many fine recordings that he produced in his studio as a solo performer. Mike is also a deejay on Sunday Mornings on WCTY radio show – with “Cousin Johnny”. In addition, Mike is also the owner of the publishing company, Atlantic Arts Productions. John Small, founder of the Connecticuit-based trio, Grand Junction, is now performing as a solo. His song, "The Crow and The Strawman" was recorded by Cathy Kreger on her 1989 cd release, "Grand Central Waltz", on the Passing Tone Music label. In addition, two of Johns' songs - "Burnin' The Midnight Oil" and "Allyns Apple Farm" have been performed in Great Britain by the band, Aristotle's Lantern. Recently, a song titled, The Maid From Louisville" (co-written with Johns' father, John R. Small) was recorded by the Connecticuit based singer, Rusty Chapman. Lyrics
High New England Snow (John Small, Mike Zito) Performed by John Small: Lead vocal, classical guitar, acoustic rhythm guitar Lyrics: Verse: High New England snow - a December afternoon, The bell high upon the Church is playing a Christmas tune. As the bells are ringing - the Church below is bare, Have we all forgotten, why is no one there? Chorus: There's a reason for the season - it's not the gifts we give, It's the gift that we were given, so we all could live. So, put away your credit card, don't count the shopping days, Gather 'round the ones you love and thank the Lord today. Thank the Lord today. Verse: High New England snow - a December afternoon, The bell high upon the Church is playing a Christmas tune. Copyright 1992 Atlantic Arts BMI
