Story behind the song
A song about European settlement in Australia and it's affect on the indigenous people and their land. The lyrics also have a theme against pollution and for solar energy. I keep rewriting the lyrics . Two versions of the lyrics can be found in "Lyrics"
Lyrics
Multicoloured Dream To the land of the sunshine, where the dark people dream Came cultures and colours of the whole world’s human scheme Who painted black on the canvas, sculpted grey from the soil Took the colours from the land and sea to make rivers of deep black oil And on these dark vein highways coloured weapons crossed the land Pumping poison from their engines and discord to nature’s plan They painted colours in their cities for the power to buy and sell Ripped apart the night with the neon light, so the heavens could see their hell Still the sun shines and the dark people dream That the sunshine’s colours will be seen In a multicoloured scheme They dream of a nation that is powered by the sun Unified like a spectrum with the colours of everyone No more painting with black oil, no more poison from the cars Let the colours run from the shining sun, like they did in the dreamtime past Still the sun shines and the dark people dream That the sunshine’s colours will be seen In a multicoloured scheme In a multicoloured dream In a multicoloured scheme Mark McCahon Copyrighted © 1987 Mark McCahon all rights reserved Coories’ Dream To the land of the sunshine, where the Coorie people dream Came cultures and colours of the whole world’s human scheme Who painted black on the canvas, sculpted grey from the soil Took the colours from the land and sea to make rivers of deep black oil And on these dark vein highways coloured weapons crossed the land Pumping poison from their engines and discord to nature’s plan They painted colours in their cities for the power to buy and sell Ripped apart the night with the neon light, so the heavens could see their hell Now they dream of a nation that is powered by the sun Unified like a spectrum with the colours of everyone No more painting with black oil, no more poison from the cars Let the colours run from the shining sun, like they did in the dreamtime past Mark McCahon Copyrighted © 2001 Mark McCahon all rights reserved
