Daughter Vice's Mark and Christy Henning don't see anything peculiar about being a brother and sister in a band together. When you grow up around the oddities and expectations of being a Methodist preacher's kid there are few people better to make music with than someone who sees the world through the same lens and has shared those experiences. Just don't confuse them with the Carpenters or heaven forbid the Osmonds. Think more along the lines of the sibling dynamism of Heart if they had been raised more on Black Sabbath than Led Zeppelin.
Raised all over Michigan due to their father's job the duo, as well as the musicians who back them live, currently call Grand Rapids home. January 2008 will see the release of the band's debut album entitled
Raging Love. Recorded in the band's home studio, the album deals with betrayal, manipulation, and the power games that are common to human relationships. Lead singer and lyricist Christy “is the sort of person who wants to try and help people and believe the best in them,” according to Mark. “But if you try and take advantage of that trust she has no hesitation in proceeding to kick your smarmy little ass! That girl is a badger.”
Daughter Vice plans to take that tenacious attitude with them on the road as they begin to set up gigs throughout Michigan and the Midwest this winter to promote Raging Love's release. Band guitarist and brother Mark puts it that “we just want to get out there and work hard and find our audience; find those people with whom we share an indefinable spirit of belonging. I feel that our ultimate goal is to build one large family that is bound together by the music that we play.”
