Story behind the song
Sung in the musical by Janis Montgomery Contway, "Pretty Boy" about Charley-Petty Boy Floyd, the sagebrush Robinhood of the thirties. Pretty Boy robs banks, but loves his son, Dempsey. When asked for a puppy, he brings a dozen strays home. The song about the puppies is also about Charley-Pretty Boy Floyd.
