Macbeth Thematic Essay
My theme for this essay is Fate. Fate means an event (or a course of events) that will inevitably happen in the future. I chose Fate because it doesn’t always mean what you say. For example, Lady Macbeth sleepwalking. She only sleepwalks because she has to my conscience on her shoulders, holding her back. Another example is in the first scene the witches predict that Macbeth will become king. Which Macbeth takes it literal and does what ever in his power to make sure he becomes king, even if it means killing who ever gets in his way he will kill them. And my last example is that a witch said“ no man born of women shall harm Macbeth”. So Macbeth would fight without any care of dying which lead to his downfall. How fate relates in the real world is superstitions. People worry about walking under a ladder or maybe seeing a black cat because they fear that they will give them bad luck or change their fate.
My first example was Lady Macbeth sleepwalking. “Since his majesty went into the field, I have seen her rise from her bed, throw her night-gown upon her, unlock her closet, take forth paper, fold it, write upon't, read it, afterwards seal it, and again
return to bed.” The only reason why Lady Macbeth is sleepwalking is because of her conscience. She feels guilty for convincing Macbeth to kill the king while he was asleep. By convincing Macbeth, her conscience becomes too powerful and in the end, she can’t handle the lies so she kills herself to escape from the pain. This is how fate changed her life for the worst.
My second example is in scene 1 when the witches predict that Macbeth would become king.
