Story behind the song
Everyday we are faced with decisions due to different circumstances, many of which are beyond our control as we make our journey on "The Sea of Life".
Lyrics
Storm's a brewin', reef the sails,
A worried captain cries
20 sailors scamper fast
And lightning fills the skies
Seas of rage are swelling
Winds soon take a chance
To howl away relentlessly
At a ship called, "Circumstance"
Blown away at the squall line
Tossed around it's hard to find
Answers to questions that I have
While voyaging the "Sea of Life"
First mate's in his hammock
The concertina wails
Says "I've seen worst storms than this
and never changed a sail"
Cabin boy's crouched in the corner
Drunk on Puerta Rican rum
Wonders why he left dry land
How could he be so dumb
Blown away at the squall line
Our ships test, is the test of time
Can we ride the high seas and survive
While voyaging the "Sea of Life"
Meanwhile back at the home port
Ship's long overdue
Harbor Master says "They must have met a gail
I'm sure they'll make it through
The captain, he's as good as they come
I've never seen him fail
With a steady hand on the helm of "Circumstance"
Through the roughest seas he'll sail"
Blown away at the squall line
Never any doubt our way we'll find
We'll take our chance on "Circumstance"
While voyaging "The Sea of Life"
As a new day is approaching
Rough seas change to calm
Captain says, "I was never really worried
about this ship I'm on
I could not be a banker
or a farmer of the land
I'm sure I was born to make my stand
on the decks of "Circumstance"
Blown away at the squall line
I'll make my choice, cause the choice is mine
Right or wrong is told from time
While voyaging the "Sea of Life"
