Story behind the song
One of the last songs recorded for Siryokohomo's Pipe Dreams record. The song is entirely electronic but the drums are made to feel like late 80's pop. The song is about two people who have screwed eachother over and must avoid eachother to ensure their survival, yet know that its inevitable that one day they will run into eachother again.
Siryokohomo wrote and produced this in the spring of 2004-"it came easy... I never paid that much attention to bass before." The song is built around the bass track. Native Instruments' Reactor was selected for the synths. "The song is very difficult to sing live. The entire first verse is sung without any opportunity for inhale or exhale. Even when the key changes half way through the verse you have no chance to breathe. I didn't plan it that way, but thats how it sounds best." Upon mastering he decided it needed a vocal hook near the end, he simply called heath Thayer one day and Heath effortlessly provided the, "You think its all me but half of it is you, this whole thatmakes up "we" but they'll never get the truth." Then Yoko added what would be the title, "your too paranoid, hence this mutual void." Originally the tune was called, "See if I follow". A hint at the questionable fate of a former bandmate. Other titles reflected the"You Got Association"line of the song. These were soon dropped. Siryoko posted an instrumental version of the song on MySpace at one point. "Its a stellar instrumental. You can take or leave my minimal vocals on most of my songs. I don't tend to show or force much emotion, so I try to keep my vocals simple and unrehearsed. The first or second take is usually my fav."
