Story behind the song
The rose over the thorn, love's triumph over adversity.
Lyrics
Zephirine Rose Andy Pearce © 2006-2008 There’s a beautiful Zephirine Rose, grows so sweetly on my back lawn. It’s all tangled up with the dog rose, but there’s always a flower over the thorn. Just like my rose you seemed to find the hard times, you hold on and on, though it hurts, I know you clamber on up the weary steps inside, but there’s always a smile enough to hide your secrets and failings, your let-downs and hurts. Your world it seems is caught between a dream and a hope. But what drives you most is the joy you inspire. You make this world a better place for yours and mine. I pick up a white feather from my sofa pillow. You said they were angels coming down from heaven. I said you were nuts, and you laughed and said to me; ‘Look up at the sky, see how they float down in the breeze’. Sometimes I wish I’d had more time to fool, Back then life was simple, with my arm around you. And we’d both lift our faces to the sky, and smile … but now we all got … those secrets and failings, our let-downs and hurts. And our world it seems is caught between a dream and hope. But what you care about are the ones you love, I know you’d say, don’t be blue, I’ll be around, and I need you to know what’s important. Well my love, that’s the least I can do. You’re always beautiful, like my Zephirine Rose.
