Story behind the song
Marvin and I have become fast friends. We had a little tiff on the Internet a while ago, we have now both buried the hatchet. Marvin is a Nam vet...When I read his line above I wanted to write this song for him to sing! This is the result. This version was mixed by Tommy Hellsten who lives in Thailand.
Lyrics
When I Die I Know I’ll Go to Heaven © October 10, 2007 Stan Loh Verse 1 When I die I know I’ll go to heaven, Cause I’ve already spent some time in hell, Where the purple flak were flyin’, And the cannons red from blazin’, Where the trench was my coffin if I died. Verse 2 When I die I’ll have a place in heaven, Far away from the tears of farewell, Where Charlie’s bamboo cages, Drove the brave who were sagacious, To the point where they broke down and wished they died. Bridge The stench of caked-up blood, Lie wasted in the mud, Death bells tolled in silence everyday, What’s the use of makin’ friends, When partin’ means the end… Of the time in hell where dear ones pay. Interlude Verse 3 If I die I’ll meet my pal in heaven, Cause he checked out from the trench hotel, He’s peaceful smilin’ at me, When the cold sweat overtakes me, Can’t forget the cries the day he died.
