Lyrics
[09-19-07] In exactly one year, the World will reunite once again for a demonstration of each respective country’s athletes, in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. On paper, it is the world’s athletes at their finest, performing not for money or notoriety, but rather for the distinguished honor for their country and it’s pride. But pride only holds so much credence when the people of a given country are oppressed, censored and snuffed. And in the case of this year’s Host, China would have a better time selling oil to an Arab, than its Human Rights record to Amnesty International. Even within its own Mission Statement, the International Olympic Committee’s stated goal is to contribute to building a peaceful and better world by educating youth through sport practiced without discrimination of any kind… The construction of facilities for the 2008 Olympics have forced 1000’s of evictions, and closed even more schools, with little or no compensation; the freedom to speak has blanketed the freedom of religion, and on this very day one year ago, the Chinese Gov’t stormed a church of 5000 parishioners, swinging old women by the hair, before bulldozing the church to the ground. I guess they didn’t get the memo that explains China disavows the Pope. So, why not a worldwide, nation by nation ban on Human Rights Abuses in China? Because, when another day at the mill, becomes another year of living comfortably, the United States barely qualifies for the Pol Pot Award of Freedom, at least these days anyway. You see, China has a terrorism problem too, and in order to fight the three faces of terror, China has legitimized their tactics in a self-described “war on terrorism” … sound familiar? They’ve constituted sparse religious gatherings as cult, and have trampled the few liberties available all in the name of freedom. Now sound familiar? The Death Penalty is mandated for no fewer crimes than 68 and the 10,000 executions carried out each year, makes Texas look like pusses. Hold a vigil; say a prayer, and Thank God the Olympics are a half a world away at our most dishonorable time.
