Story behind the song
I've never bought a guitar. The closest I ever came was with the guitar I wrote this song with. I paid for less than half in cash and the rest in 'God Deeds'. She's beat up and over twenty five now and I was just graced with another guitar.
I don't want to write songs or need to, I HAVE to...
This song is no less than paging through old poetry I'd written and running across a line I jotted down in one in 1981.
I made a wish upon a star, I want to play on God's Guitar!
May he always let me borrow it...
Lyrics
Packing my six string and my hopes and dreams I hit the highway.
Looking for something more than just a small town point of view.
Narrow streets breed narrow minds, people always peeking through the blinds
spreading their rumor disease.
But my heart, not my eyes, helped me see it's disguise
and I'll choose my own mind, if you please!
Now that I'm miles away, the in's and out's of the day-to-day are not as pleasing.
Not a scholar but not a fool, though I should have stayed in school another season.
Cause there I was, on my own. So much still unknown
and so many dangers at hand.
Then to come face to face with the rats of the race, well that was far more than I had ever planned.
Well, in lieu of a bad cliche, lets just say that I'm ok for all my growing.
Cause when the smoke had dissappeared somehow I had made it in the clear
so I just kept going.
I made a wish on a star
not to be who you are
and maybe one day I'd even
get to go as far as to play
on God's Guitar.
