Story behind the song
While on a business trip, I sat down next to a wonderful lady on an airplane. Her voice was absolutely delightful and I listened to her speak the whole trip. I gave her my number and suggested that she call me for dinner. Eventually she did but it took her several days and I thought I would go crazy waiting. This recording of this song was of a performance in Pune, India in 2005 in front of a group of about 3000 people. The recording was made on a small mini-cassette recorder so please pardon the quality.
Lyrics
If I Fell
I stepped on that plane and sat down next to you.
You spoke to me and I put my book away.
And every word was so enchanting. I listened the whole flight through.
That plane touched down but I kept flying with you.
If I fell would you let me do it? If I fell would you hold me through it?
If I fell, if I fell, if I fell in love with you.
If I fell would you fall with me, give me your hand, lift your veil and kiss me.
If I fell, if I fell, if I fell in love with you.
I gave you my number and I hoped call me.
I watched you disappear down concourse B.
I checked my voice mail every hour. I charged my cell phone night and day.
To pass the time I practiced what I would say.
Every night I counted the tiles in the hotel ceiling.
I tossed and turned in my bed and I tried hard to fight the feeling.
I told myself to let you and not let my heart drown.
I was losing faith fate would not let me down.
My cell phone rang one night while I was I was eating dinner.
And telling the waitress about the girl who got away.
I dropped my fork; I elbowed my entree; I broke a 30 dollar bottle of wine.
The waitress was laughing when I heard your sweet voice on that line.
