Story behind the song
Well, I cobbled together a track on some weekend time, starting last week. Total time for project = 6 hours, roughly, so its a bit of a quickie! I began by trolling through some Reaktor user beatbox/drum machines, and parked in one called "Schlachzeuch." I'd never used it before, but after messing around with it a bit I've found it to be a pretty cool little drum machine. So I cooked up some loops there, mostly messing with the ensembles effects for sonic variations. I ended up using only 3 or so, and did some loop chopping by hand right in P5 to alter the basic 4 on the floor rhythms I'd originally bounced down. I then ran the drum loops through Reaktor's FlatBlaster 2 to beef them up/add some saturation. I don't own the ubiquitous Vintage Warmer, so FlatBlaster is one of the plugs I use in lieu of VW, I guess, lol. I next came up with the synth/pad sound, which was nicked from a "Titan" (Reaktor Electronic Instruments Volume 1) chord patch, from which I added some more lfo modulation and saturation. I altered the tuning a bit, as well as some other minor changes, and bounced it down again, which provided the higher frequency variation that comes in to complement the original bounce. The bass was programmed from scratch in Massive, using a bit of Phase Modulation (I've been reading Roads' "Computer Music Manual" as of late, and while most of the technical shit flies straight over the fan of my mind, I've been retaining a bit of information regarding the different modes of synthesis (I'm only 200 pages into it right now). I'd like a more thorough knowledge of digital sound so that I can understand all my software better, and to have a more immediate understanding of how to create particular sounds, etc. The simple arpeggiating synth that enters midway was programmed from scratch in Titan, using some Ring Modulation (also putting stuff I'm learning from Roads to use!) The static noise that enters midway through the song is a drum loop that I ran through P5's Spectral Transformer, which reduced it to a kind of radio static. The final rising/falling sound panned hard left was done in Absynth. All other effects were added directly from the synth they were made in. I didn't compress any of the individual tracks (other than the drum loops in FlatBlaster, as noted). Mastered quickly, as usual, with Ozone 3.
