Story behind the song
My family and I recently visited Santa Fe. While I was there, I bought a cowboy hat. My wife remarked, "Now you're a kosher cowboy!" The song was born!
Lyrics
I'm a kosher cowboy from Santa Fe A kosher cowboy, I ride my horse all day I oil my rifle with chicken fat I wear a yarmulke under my black hat. A 10 gallon hat with a big wide brim My name is Moishe, but they call me "slim." I've been a cowboy since my early teens My meals consist of bagels and beans. Brisket and cholent are in my stew. I Got chopped liver and matzo balls too. Don’t eat no sirloin. Rib eye will do. That’s a feast for a cowboy Jew. A kosher cowboy from way out west I got my boots and leather vest Got my tzitzis and mezuzzah too I'm fluent in Spanish and Hebrew Roping and branding, that's where it's at. My horse knows Yiddish. Imagine that! The ladies love my southwestern charm A kosher cowboy from the halvah farm. I love the Southwest. Been here my whole life. I got a shotgun and a Bowie knife. My friend's a mohel. Consider this... He uses his when he performs a bris. On Friday evening before I dine I drink a bissel Manischevitz wine Every Sabbath is a day of rest For a kosher cowboy from the wild, wild west.
