Do It Yourself Alternative
Since receiving his first guitar at age 12 (a 1965 Silvertone) Ryan has been writing and playing music for his personal enjoyment for more than 30 years. After years of putting his music on assorted cassettes (and a 8 year layoff to take care of career and kids) Ryan put Pro Tools on an old computer in the back bedroom and began writing, playing and recording music again. It's a life-long hobby for him. Ryan plays guitar, bass and keyboards and uses a drum machine for the beats.

Story behind the song
Musically, the song is influenced by Rush. Lyrically, the song is about the unfairness of life. It's about how some are born with limited opportunities while those in media offer superficial distractions to entertain the masses while the whole thing goes up in smoke. Radio talk show host Laura Ingram inspired some of the lyrics. I heard her berating Barack Obama for how he pronounced the word "Pakistan" in a speech without addressing the substance of his argument.
Lyrics
Inequity comes at the youngest age Where you’re born can mean where you stay And those who line up just to put you down Are never happy, then they’re underground Perpetual war against a blank slate Raises ambition of all in the race If the government kills, who solves the crime? When the quest for justice only wastes time. Does the news exist to put the drugs on? Just to make you forget that you were born. Distracting you for another day Keeps your mind off of so far away Sugarloaf Mountain is a place to be Take me up – away by the sea Keep me in the clouds for another day Gonna make it – no matter what they say Sunday’s battle leads to Monday’s mourning Focus on haircuts and miss the warning When the starlet drives into another tree What’s left of this world for you and me?
