Story behind the song
My first love is "Gospel" music...I loved it as a child until present. My favorite Gospel song is "In The Garden" I recorded it to be played at my Father's funeral at his request just days before he passed away. . I sang the song from memory and was not sure if I had the words right but, my engineer Jeff Earley told me after the firstand only take we did that it was a keeper. It is the current version of the song we have posted here. After the funeral my mother asked me to sing it while we were in Church...I was hesitant to do so and when she told me the story of why it was probably one of my all time favorite songs and why my Father wanted it played at his funeral. She told me "It was the song I sang you to sleep with every night when you was a child" I did sing the song that night with my cousins who are gospel singers themselves...half way thru the song I could hear my Mom singing with me...I'll never forget that moment...for you see, my mother was very ill and you could hardly hear her above a whisper...but, at that moment you could hear her above the piano and above me...it was the first time we had ever sang together...she also sang it to me one last time...it was truly a blessing for all to hear in the Church that day because no one could have conversations with her for years before that because she was so weak..they all heard her that day. I havn't sang the song completely since because I can hardly get through it...but, I hope someday I will...so for now the version you hear...I pray is an inspiration for you all...and you can feel and experiance what I did when recording the song. A very close friend of mine Arden Crislip wrote a song called "A Whisper Away" He asked me to sing it. To be continued....
Lyrics
(Words & music by C.A. Miles) I come to the garden alone While the dew is still on the roses And the voice I hear falling on my ear The song of God discloses And He walks with me And He talks with me And He tells me I am his own And the joy we share as we tarry there None other has ever known He speaks and the sound of His voice Is so sweet the birds hush their singing And the melody that He gave to me Within my heart is ringing And He walks with me And He talks with me And He tells me I am his own And the joy we share as we tarry there None other has ever known
