Who Will Slay The Giants?
James at War is a one man band. Mostly I do parodies of popular songs, but I'm also a Christian song writer (mucgh more a writer than performer.) Feel free to drop a line and tell me what you think!
Story behind the song
This song was written in about 7 minutes right after a Chaplain said a prayer with me for my children's ministry. I was frustrated that parents did not seem to care about their children's spiritual growth. He prayed that they would be like David, small but able to slay giants. As soon as he left the room I wrote this song.
Lyrics
V.1
A boy pretends to read the paper, 'cause that’s what Daddy does
He climbs up in his lap and they both watch TV
And now it’s time for church so Mommy puts the kids in the van
But Daddy stays behind for more important things
“Daddy why don’t you come”, asks the boy
“Because I can worship right here where I am”
“Daddy doesn’t need God”, thinks the boy
“Well I guess that is what it means to be a man”
Chorus
Who will slay the giants, when the brave are scared to stand
When the lions roars, and swords fall from the frightened warrior’s hand
And who will face the arrows when no armor’s to be found
Who will have the faith to take the giants to the ground
Who will slay the giants?
V.2
A little girl plays in her room, while Mom and Dad prepare downstairs
Just another Sunday Morning routine
It’s in the car and to the church, Sunday School and singing
And to the girl this is what “Christian” means
'Cause Mom and Dad won’t ask her what she’s learned
And no one tells her God exists outside these walls
And fifteen years have gone by with nothing more than routine
So she does not hear when Jesus calls
Chorus
Who will slay the giants, when the brave are scared to stand
When the lions roars, and swords fall from the frightened warrior’s hand
And who will face the arrows when no armor’s to be found
Who will have the faith to take the giants to the ground
Bridge
Lord help me know that this might be the one who stands
When other have forsaken you
This small child could be the one
To go and tell the world Your truth
And if I take the time to give
To them what You have asked me to
When the enemy comes laughing in defiance
They will slay giants
They could slay the giants
Chorus
Who will slay the giants, when the brave are scared to stand
When the lions roars, and swords fall from the frightened warrior’s hand
And who will face the arrows when no armor’s to be found
Who will have the faith to take the giants to the ground
Lord, give them the faith to take the giants to the ground
God, give me the faith to take the giants to the ground
