Lyrics
Mum and Dad's Waltz I miss the local dances, In the old community hall, Folks you rarely saw cept church, The dance would bring them all, The ladies would bring a basket, Men they bought the beer, The pastor bought the punch, And the band just bought their gear, Quick steps and Pride of Erins, Two steps and the Rumba, Waltzes, Jives, and Barn Dance, Slow rhythms, and the Samba, Girls danced with each other, Us guys would line the wall, Until one of us on a dare, Would ask a girl out to the floor, The waltz it was my favourite, Though I couldn't dance to well, But mum and dad were like poetry, And the waltz was like a spell, They glided round the floor, Flowing, quick and neat, They barley made a whisper, Love made them light upon their feet, The room would stop and watch them, As they danced to music of their own, Their eyes were for each other, And the band played for them alone, That was many years ago, When I was only ten, When us guys would line the walls, And pretend that we were men, I miss the local dances, And the fun we used to have, All the folks that used to go there, and watching mum and dad,
