Lyrics
BALLAD of JIM DEBOSE, The SECOND ROUND Written in memory of James (Jim) "Sonny Boy" DeBose Copyright 1998 Kenny W. Hopkins 1- Down on a farm in the state of Louisian'; Between the hills of a creek called LaNan'; There lived a kid, Sonny Boy was his name; This was before he had made his claim to fame. 2- He hunted bears, big, bad bears, like Daniel Boone; Sometimes he hunted by the light of the moon; As in the tales of the great Pecos Bill; He would just rope 'em and ride 'em down the hill! (CHORUS) But his great love was the rodeo; He heard a call, and would have to go; Took that bear-clawed bull rope; And changed his name, He became known as that cowboy, Jim DeBose! 3- He rode the bulls, as the people knew he would; Sometimes for fun, just to prove that he could; He became great, all the world knew of him; They would all shout, here he comes, that cowboy, Jim ! 4- In dreams, he dreamed, of a night, the moon was full; There he would stand, a magnificent bull; His coat was as white, as the light in the sky; Then he was gone, leaving Jim still mystified. (CHORUS) Then came the world's greatest rodeo; Destiny called, and he'd have to go; With the bear-clawed bull rope, and this great dream; He'd try to win, would this cowboy, Jim DeBose! 5- As the cowboys took their turn for this first round; Each rode his bull 'till they heard the horn sound; It ended up with all tied for first place; The second round would tell them who won the stakes! 6- The second round; Jim had drawn and had first ride;(Jim drew the bull, Destiny, and had first ride); There in the chute was, to his great surprise; That great white bull he had seen in his dream! It seemed to Jim, the eyes held a hidden gleam! (CHORUS) Out of the chute, this white bull and Jim; Stirring the dust 'till the moon was dimmed; And with Jim still riding, one hand held high; They disappeared in the darkness of the sky! (CHORUS) Still, , 'till this day, at the rodeo; Tales can be heard of that Jim DeBose And how all the cowboys, without a sound; Gave up their rides, giving Jim the second round! * Jim heard the call of that distant trumpet sound; * Without a doubt, Jim has won the second round; *Jim heard the call of that distant trumpet sound! (Destiny called, with that distant trumpet sound)
