Killa Mane was a rapper based in Melbourne, Australia. He was originally born in the Dixie Homes Projects in Memphis, TN to Ukrainian and African American parents, before moving to Australia at age 18. At age 19 he released his first tape, a ground breaking tape entitled "Ten Toes Down" in 1994. He had brought the typical Memphis sound of the time, over to the slowly growing Australian rap scene. The tape was well recieved in the underground circuit in Melbourne. It was something people had never heard before. The booming bass and creepy beats had rappers calling it "goth rap" or "dark rap". After the success of his first tape, he released his second in 1996, "It's Tha Killa Mane", again to wide acclaim. Killa Mane was also infamous for performing live in his trademark hockey mask. After his 1996 tape, In 1999 Killa Mane was incarcerated at the Port Philip prison for aggravated robbery for up to 7 years. He was released in June 2006 and has since planned to move back to Memphis.
