I am a pianist who also plays hurdy gurdy and I like to combine the two instruments (this is not possible on my own in real time!). Putting chordal piano music against droning gurdy melodies makes for an interesting combination, with or without the rhythmic buzz which has to be used with some care.

Story behind the song
Renate Janssen has a talent for capturing beautiful tunes, and has written much original material for her hurdy gurdy as well as flute and recorder. This deceptively simple piece in five-time was emailed across the North Sea using music notation software, allowing collaboration at a distance! This was returned to the composer with my piano chords added, and she liked the result. This double-tracked recording is of my piano and strained gurdy playing, and features some added bass and percussion by Paul Keeler towards the end.
