What is success? A curse or a blessing? Never forget where you came from when you get there...
songwriter cool romantic hopeless unpublished
Rhythm Guitarist/Songwriter <br />(Original Songs, Acoustic, Lazy, Unaccomplished, Off-key vocals)
Not a band... just a songwriter looking to catalog some of the many songs I've written over the years (or forced to by some faceless muse)... If anybody enjoys the words and music (note: I can't sing!) and lets me know so, then all the better... but it's mostly just for me and posterity... (Although I wouldn't mind having these puppies published...).

Story behind the song
This was done for a John Mayer songwriting contest in Esquire magazine... I kind of like it and my daughter enjoys listening to it before bed...
Lyrics
I keep a note that I wrote on a taxi receipt It says, "Don't listen to anybody other than me" I hit the big time for a nominal fee You lose a friend in the end for every dream that you see come true [Chorus:] I got scars upon scrapes, I've got bruises on breaks Masochistically committed to see how much of this I'll take Three years under water, and I ain't even got the shakes I'm going deeper and deeper and deeper I've got dreams to remember, I've got days to forget I've got some phone calls in to God but he ain't call me back just yet Everybody else takes the time to pay off all my nominal debts But you can't pay the nominal debts of someone you've just met, just yet [Chorus] [Bridge:] As deep as this was ever meant to be I ain't even notionally, nominally free I tossed some words I heard into the ether clear I heard, "Don't miss what you don't have when the price is dear" I crashed and burned before I ever really felt the fear You lose a friend in the end for every dream that does not come true [Chorus 2:] I got scars upon scrapes, I've got bruises on breaks Masochistically committed to see how much of this I'll take Three years under water, and I'm just starting to shake Still I'm going deeper and deeper and deeper
