Hard rock band based in Co. Durham in the North East of England.
Skinflint are a young hard rock band based in Stanley, County Durham in the North East of England, who have played gigs all over the region. From schools and colleges, pubs and clubs to charity and biker festivals the band have met great response with crowds of all ages wherever they’ve played. Their sound is influence by classic rock and metal music such as Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Guns N Roses, and their twin-guitar harmony sound and the desire to keep the guitar solo alive are reflections of these influences. The band members are David Sharp on Guitar and Vocals, Kevin Burdon on Guitar and backing vocals, Alan Burdon on Bass Guitar and backing vocals and Kevin Roxborough on Drums. Each member brings their own unique styles to the band, and the contrasting guitar styles of David Sharp’s bluesy playing and Kevin Burdon’s technical style complement each other well over the extremely tight rhythm section of Alan Burdon and Kevin Roxborough. Skinflint were originally formed as Recked in September 1998 for a talent show in the local town of Stanley. The band had a 3 guitar lineup consisting of Ashley Bell on Vocals, David Sharp on Guitar and Backing Vocals, Kevin Burdon on Guitar, Alan Burdon on Guitar and Kevin Roxborough on the drums. After appearing in the talent show with a kinetic cover of Robbie Williams’ “Let Me Entertain You”, the band continued as Recked for another six months, playing the occasional gig with a set of light rock covers, but this came to an end in June 1999 when Ashley Bell went in his own direction. David Sharp took on the lead vocal duties and Alan Burdon then switched from guitar to bass to strengthen the rhythm section and Skinflint were born. The band then underwent a drastic change of style, scrapping the old light set and learning a classic rock and metal set consisting of Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Metallica. After building up a substantial set of covers and playing all over the local area for two years tightening their act, Skinflint began writing original material, recording Out Here On My Own for a local youth project in April 2001. Later that year they recorded two more songs as part of a college project, Figure of 8 and One. These three songs were available on the untitled Skinflint E.P, which was on sale from the band members at gigs. After another few years of gigging their covers set, they turned their focus to writing more original material and they have just completed working on their self-produced 9-track "Figure of 8" album, which is now on sale at gigs.

Story behind the song
"This one's about going through life, trying your best, but always ending up ...wey..face down! You think it's ok, but when you wake up, and open your eyes, it's all crappy! This one's from the perspective of someone who thinks no matter what they do, they'll always end up face down. Not the attitude to have, children..!" - Dave

Lyrics © Copyright D.Sharp Sitting here, without a care Watching the world passing below It’s all a mad rush, a sea of despair Wish I could only take it slow And suddenly, ‘though I’m so far up It doesn’t seem so far down And probably by the time I wake up I’ll be lying there face down I can’t get used to this, although it’s always the same All this chaotic bliss, finding someone else to blame Just when I think it’s over And the worst has come around But it’s still my turn, I guess I’ll never learn So I’ll be lying there face down When I’m doing all right, it’s waiting on every sound And when I’m thinking it’s all right, its there to put me back down Just when I think it’s over And the worst has come around But it’s still my turn, I guess I’ll never learn So I’ll be lying there face down Sitting here, without a care Watching the world pass in the blink of an eye It’s all a mad rush, a sea of despair I wish I could only take my time But I can’t listen and I can’t see I guess I’ll never come around So I can’t hear you, when you’re warning me So I’ll be lying there face down Face down Face down Face down
