Every Saturday morning when I was a boy,
You could always find me watching Gene and Roy.
Hopalong Cassidy and the Cisco Kid.
Wanted to do everything my heroes did.
Yeah they were there to right the wrongs.
Playing guitars and singing songs. Then they'd
Take care of the bad guys and when they were done,
Round up their amigos and ride off into the sun.
Never thought about money. Never asked for pay.
They were happy living the simple cowboy way.
Sitting 'round the campfire, sleeping under the stars.
Never had to worry 'bout taxes or foreign wars.
Now everything has changed since then.
But I can still remember when they would
Be riding and roping; shooting their guns.
Then every week, they'd ride off into the sun.
When did we turn it around?
When did bad become good?
When did up become down?
When did all of our heroes smiling out of the TV set
Get to be well-known for things that they did wrong?
INSTRUMENTAL
Who do we have today that we can point to
And smile and say that we
Want you to be like that when you grow up, son.
Maybe all of our heroes rode off into the sun.
Or maybe the heroes are you and me
Who do right because that's just how it has to be.
Maybe we are the heroes. Maybe we are the ones
That the kids will remember when we ride into the sun.
