Story behind the song
There is a legend that tells of a fiddler on a Mississippi riverboat that witnessed the death of an Indian in a spring flood. The fiddler played this tune as the Indian gave his death yell. They say the fiddler never played another tune after that but for this one... so goes the lenegd.
