A Deeper Shade of Blue
The gallery is filled with colored canvas
Painted images of fantasy and light
Crafted illustrations filled with love and loss
Fleeting visions of another side of life
In the quest for these illusions the artist struggles with the truth
And brushes in a deeper shade of blue
I watched her through the window of the café
She looked so happy as she held on to his hand
I wondered if she ever thinks about me
Trying so hard in that moment to pretend
As the glass reflects the image of a broken lonely fool
My heart turns to a deeper shade of blue
Just when I thought that I’d touched bottom
Her memory lifts me up again
So many teardrops I can’t count them
And too few reasons to pretend
I’m faced with revelations that I can’t undo
And my whole world turns a deeper shade of blue
The midday sun illuminates the faces
Shadowed boulevards, quiet little streets
Soon the songbirds of twilight all will gather
Singing lullabies to coax the world to sleep
And then just before the dawning with the stars obscured from view
The night sky turns a deeper shade of blue
Just when I thought that I’d touched bottom
Her memory lifts me up again
So many teardrops I can’t count them
And too few reasons to pretend
I’m faced with revelations that I can’t undo
And my whole world turns a deeper shade of blue
