Song About Priorities after The columbine shooting
Singer-Songwriter from New Hampshire
I'm a singer-songwriter from New Hampshire. My desire is to write songs about real life and tell stories. I hope above all else that God is seen and glorified by my simple expressions of music and the opening of my heart.
Story behind the song
Most Of You Know The story about Columbine. Two teenagers walked into their Colorado High School and opened fire on their classmates. When it was all said and done, 14 kids and 1 teacher were dead. As the story in the media unfolded and tales of violent music, games, and web pages came to light, I wondered how all this could happen and the parents didn’t see the warning signs. I hope this song challenges parents to pay attention and care for their kids and for families to love and care for each other more. Jesus said, Let the little children come unto me for thiers is the Kingdom of heaven.
Lyrics
Family Tree
By Lonnie Crampsey
He said, “Daddy, Daddy, can you come and play with me”
His dad said, “ son I’m just to busy can’t you see?”
So he turns back to his paper and continues to read
And with tears in his eyes his boy goes out to play
She said, “Mommy, Mommy I need help with my new dress”
Her Mom said, “ I’d love to help you honey but this house is just a mess,
You know how important it is for our home to look its best
So she looks in the mirror all alone
Chorus
Have we lost our mind, have we missed the point
Aren’t our families the most important thing?
Are our warped priorities where we went wrong?
The degeneration of the family tree
He works the late night hours at his office far from home
He’s trying hard to get ahead but his wife feels so alone
He has to dig through his paper work just to find the phone
He says, “ don’t worry honey I’ll be leaving soon (chorus)
I think of all the things I take for granted
When will I ever learn?
If we are called to truly love each other
Then shouldn’t our families be first?
