Story behind the song
This song isn't actually country in genre, but until I figure out where to place it, I will leave it as a country genre song. This song was inspired by my daughter Pamela who had asked me to write a halloween poem for her. The intro chorus and the first verse is what I wrote for her. I was moved to write the rest and found myself realizing the form this message this was taking from poem to lyric. Thanks Pam for the inspiration.
Lyrics
THE TRICK OR TREAT CAVEAT (CHILDREN BEWARE) ©2006 DAVID Z. MORONEZ (Intro Chorus) Children beware I say to you As you trick or treat into the night Dressed as witches, heroes and ghouls Some are cute while others are a fright You know behind some closed doors Doors you may knock upon You may find so much more Than you had ever counted on (V1) As the door swings open with an eerie squeak And the shadow of the greeter blankets you Your heart pounds your "TRICK OR TREAT" As fear begins to run through Before you stands’ the legendary Dracula Who says "Good evening dear quencher to my thirst You look mighty spectacular On this October thirty first" (Bridge) Vampires’ desires Preying on innocence Changing young lives forever more (Chorus) Children beware I'm telling you As you trick or treat into the night Dressed as witches, heroes and ghouls Some are cute while others are a fright You know behind some closed doors Doors you may knock upon You may find so much more Than you had ever counted on (V2) As the door swings open with an eerie creak And the shadow of the greeter blankets you Your heart pounds your "TRICK OR TREAT" As fear begins to run through Before you stands' the legendary Frankenstein Who says "Good evening my healthy young reserve Oh I could use a youthful mind On this October thirty first" (2nd Bridge) Sweet talking monsters Preying on innocence Changing youthful lives forever more (Chorus) Children beware I'm urging you As you trick or treat into the night Dressed as witches, heroes and ghouls Some are cute while others are a fright You know behind some closed doors Doors you may knock upon You may find so much more Than you had ever counted on (V3) As the door swings open with a howling shriek And the shadow of the greeter blankets you Your heart pounds your "TRICK OR TREAT" As fear begins to run through Before you stands' the legendary Werewolf Who says "Good evening, welcome to your curse Sweetness brought under my roof On this October thirty first" (Outro- 3rd Bridge) Werewolves, Vampires Monsters’ behind closed doors Molesters, Predators Parents warn your children Before they change your lives forever more (Tag) Children beware I'm warning you...
