The song 'Pigeon' is about how people are put into boxes in the music industry based on outdated assumptions of who they are, how they look, their age, gender and ethnicity etc.
Singer-songwriter of emotional songs and reflections on life.
Singer-songwriter of heartfelt songs with meaningful, emotional lyrics.
Story behind the song
I was frustrated at how women are perceived by the music industry. I don't believe in putting people into "boxes", everyone should be free to express themselves through any genre or type of music.
Lyrics
Pigeon
I’m not a pigeon, I’m not a pigeon
Man wants to put me in to a box
Man wants to keep me, under the lock
Man wants to make me, tick to his tock
Man makes me wanna pick up a rock
I’m not a pigeon, so don’t pigeonhole me
I’m not a stereo, so don’t stereotype me
I’m not cat, so don’t categorise me
I’m a unique individual, a one-off original
Man wants to slap me, with a label
Man wants to get me all unstable
Man wants me thinking, that I’m not able
But man makes me wanna, turn the tables
I’m not a pigeon, so don’t pigeonhole me
I’m not a stereo, so don’t stereotype me
I’m not cat, so don’t categorise me
I’m a unique individual, a one off original (x2)
And you should thank you lucky stars
That you ever met someone like me
Man wants to tell me, who I am
Man wants to place me, under his hand
Man wants to stop me making my plans
But man wants to know that, I don’t give a damn
I’m not a pigeon, so don’t pigeonhole me
I’m not a stereo, so don’t stereotype me
I’m not cat, so don’t categorise me
I’m a unique individual, a one off original (x2)
And you should thank you lucky stars
That you ever met someone like me (x2)
