Story behind the song
The inspiration for this song was a visit last summer to the Children's Garden at the Legacy Emanuel Children's Hospital in Portland, Oregon. This fairy tale-like setting provides both therapeutic healing and relief to the body and spirit of patients, their families and medical staff. The Children's Garden is the centerpiece of the hospital's exceptional horticulture therapy program developed by horticulture therapist and visionary, Teresia Hazen. More hospitals need such gardens. Performed by; David James, Vocals, Guitar and Harmonica....Riverwolfthyme as backup with Dobo Lap Slide, 12 String Guitar and Bass
Lyrics
TAKE ME TO THE GARDEN STARIN OUT MY WINDOW, JUST FINISHED UP THE MORNING MEAL, THE NURSE SHE SMILES AS SHE TAKES AWAY MY BOWL, WOODY LANDED ON A TREE AND PEEKED IN THROUGH THE GLASS, TELLIN ME ITS TIME TO GET UP AND GO OUTSIDE. THE CLOCK SAYS ITS NEARLY TEN BUT TIME DONT MEAN THAT MUCH TO ME, AND THE DAYS GO BY BRINGING ME CLOSER TO MY DREAM. SOMETIMES I GET SO TIRED OF THOSE NEEDLES STICKING ME, BUT THEY TELL ME THATS WHAT THEY GOTTA DO. CHORUS: TAKE ME TO THE GARDEN MAMA, ROLL ME THROUGH THE DOORS, JUST NEED SOME TIME TO SIT BENEATH THE TREES. TO CLOSE MY EYES AND SMILE AND LISTEN TO THE BREEZE, AND THE SMELL OF ROSES HELPS TO EASE MY PAIN IM TWELVE YEARS OLD AND WOULD RATHER BE OUT PLAYING WITH MY FRIENDS, BUT MY BODY TELLS ME THAT JUST IS NOT TO BE. SO MANY DAYS ARE SPENT IN BED SLEEPIN AND WATCHING MY TV GOT FAVORITE PROGRAMS BUT THEY ALL SEEM TO BE THE SAME CHORUS: SOMETIMES I ASK GOD WHY HE PUT ME IN THIS PLACE, AND WHY HES TAKIN ME ONE DAY AT A TIME AND ONCE WHEN I FELT MOST LOST, UP CAME A HUMMING BIRD TO DRY MY TEARS AND LIFT ME TO A SMILE CHORUS: SO TAKE ME TO THE GARDEN MAMA, SIT ME IN THE SHADE THINK MAYBE THIS IS WHAT HEAVENS GONNA BE I CLOSE MY EYES AND SMILE AND LISTEN TO THE BREEZE AND THE SMELL OF ROSES HELPS TO EASE MY PAIN AND THE SMELL OF ROSES HELPS TO EASE MY PAIN

Very touching emotional song. I can picture the garden you portray! Sad but beautiful song. Nice job. Rosie
