Hippy Dye Cowboy is an idea, a band, a dream, some music, some friends, and a recording project. It also stays crispy in milk and goes well with a nice, dark honey porter. The band, as such, is comprised of several people who have collaborated on both musical and lyrical content. These efforts are then collected by Todd; the work is distilled and coaxed into a final product. While not a band in the traditional sense, it doesn't truly fall into the category of "solo act". None of the music would exist without the contributions of the whole.

Story behind the song
This song started as one of Lisa's poems, describing a woman's memory of a physical assault (fictional). Todd took those words and used them to build out a song about a guy sitting on a stool at the neighborhood bar, thinking dark thoughts on a dark night in the dark city. From a songwriting point of view, this is an interesting example of how a particular idea and a few words can become something related, but different.
Lyrics
My drink is warm and my heart is cold, Another night in this worthless hole, The talking head tells me I should care, I take my shoes out to catch some air... ****** I sit and smoke and remember, That night it rained...it rained. I know that nothing's forever, And yet there's always pain, Yeah, it stays...Oh lord, it stays... ****** The broken glass, the cold, wet ground, The empty streets without a sound, Somewhere softly a siren cries, Another battle for someone's life... ****** (bridge/lead) A Painted Mary holds out her hand, A spouting prophet says,"What's your plan?" The clouds are forming, some low, some high, The rain is coming to end my night... ****** (repeat x 3) Copyright (c) 1994, Todd C. South/Lisa L. Callahan All Rights Reserved.
