Contemporary hymns and new worship music
CONTEMPORARY HYMNS AND NEW WORSHIP MUSIC These are acoustic worship songwriting demos with chords sheets. IF YOU'RE A SINGER, BAND, OR WORSHIP LEADER/PASTOR, FEEL FREE TO USE these modern hymns and worship songs in live settings, and to reproduce lyric sheets for Power Point, overhead transparency, or whatever you use. THE MODERN HYMN MOVEMENT: The recent explosion of contemporary hymns and inroads made into churches by Indelible Grace, Stuart Townend, Keith and Kristyn Getty and other modern hymn writers has done wonders for reminding us of the relevance of old hymns and turning again to new hymns crafted in old literary patterns that expressed theological truths in ways that many modern song-constructs cannot follow. I work in this tradition, writing deeply theological worship songs that can be adapted for various musical genres, while presenting the gospel in the depth that hymns are famous for. Click the "Lyrics/story tab next to each song on my MP3 music page for chords, as well as a list of themes/liturgical settings for each song and CCLI #s. YOU CAN ALSO DOWNLOAD OVERHEAD TRANSFER SHEETS, chord sheets, and lyrics to some of these songs by looking up my name in the Artist List of these two sites: Just send me a note letting me know who/where you are -- I'd like to know! .

Story behind the song
COMMUNION HYMN. I wanted to write a song that spoke of Christ's lordship over all creation, and the fact that His sacrifice was all the more remarkable BECAUSE of His role in creating and sustaining everything in existence, including the instrument of his execution. Thanks to Lorie King (soundclick.com/lorieking) for singing on this demo. Verses in short meter-double with a prechorus also in short meter (66.86) and an unmetered chorus.
Lyrics
____Bb___Bb/D___F You spoke into the void, _Bb____Bb/D__F Created every star. ____Bb______F_______Cm___F You made the earth and everything ____Cm______F______Gm That sin would one day mar. ____Bb______Bb/D____F And then, Lord, by Your Word __Bb_________Bb/D__F Appeared each form of life; ___Bb_____F____Cm___F And in Your image Adam came ____Cm_____F_____Gm And from him came a wife. ___Fm__________Ab But even then you knew ____Dd_______________Eb The curse our pride would bring. ____Bb__F_____Cm_____F The only way to save mankind -- _____Cm___F_______Eb You'd die on Your own tree. Bb__F______Cm___Bb__F______Cm You grew the tree. You grew the tree. Bb__F________Eb______Cm____Eb____F_______Bb You knew what we would do, But still You grew the tree. You gave the sun and rain To grow the fated wood. You could have ripped it from the ground; Year after year it stood. And then rebellious men Made of it a cross, Planning bloody wickedness in place of nature's loss. You knew what to expect, The untold misery. I'm face-down at the thought of it, That still You grew the tree. repeat chorus CCLI #4878223
