Story behind the song
In July 2006 a remake of the album "The Need for Theory" was made in cooperation with recording engineer Johan Nordström of Janeco Studios. This is the new version. The absolute first song (music-wise only) to be written for "The Need for Theory", "My Thoughts be Punished" was composed in the "Lies Shall Command"-sessions. I could have released it as a part of "Lies Shall Command", but the lyrical and vocal arrangement would surely have suffered from it. Perhaps a bit overlooked because of "Hate the Human Figure!", which contains similarities in this in terms of length and epica, but it's definetly regarded as some of my best work by myself. The lyrics contains a neverending story in this case. Again, I always try to distort the lyrics to kill all connections to any real case, but I'll give away that it's all about deep love... The song is perhaps the most welcome, and apparent, change from its original version, especially the clean voice in the end. The clean vocals in the verses were provided by Jesper Jakobsson.
Lyrics
I have worn out my claws through my clover I’ve found it’s this yearning that ruined it all Eclipsed it now mirrors oblivion Stay still within margins of the looking eye Then along came this moon with its bliss Making clovers seem emptier still It screamed faultlessly into the night Killing all the sunlight Oh, how I longed for my rose In the end I saw not enough flaws The foundation of mirrored lust I fancy my beliefs raw and untouched My mind be punished for all its thoughts Ignorant indeed and by no cause lost Blade of the coffin seems near and close Redefining death as the splendorous gift One can have, one can give Exploiting this pure flipside normality I have forgiven my clover Still I’m deserted at heart Who can tell what will penetrate my psyche As turmoil has rested inside Once I felt sure how to be approached Once I felt good, I suppose Then pure feelings begged me to step aside And become a mortal Sculptor, inventor, whatever suits your technique Deformer in vanishing art Molten beauty in continual dread A thousand views entered my corpse No need for blameless grandeur I apprehended that I wouldn’t respond I’ll hail you master She was to say in the gentle sweet ways How to fulfil my apprentice with rage Who was to save my untruthful demands? Leaping forth queries towards distant lands… My core was feeble but my eyes could still see… Body of mine losing limbs rapidly - “Inanity is force-fed to your kind… Punished be you for the thoughts in your mind!”
