This is about the time in every guys life, when he might not feel like he has what it takes to ask the one he loves to be with him for the rest of their lives.

I've been dabbling in songwriting for about 25 years, ever since I started playing in a band. In the past few years I've gotten a little more serious about it and I enjoy the the idea of creating something from my experiences. Whether personal or from an external source, I like to see my thoughts go from paper to a recorded product. I've been having a lot of fun trying to produce my own music. I'm not into performing my own music so much anymore, but I would like to see it get out there for others to hear.
Story behind the song
I wrote this for my girlfriend. I didn't have the money to get her a really nice engagement ring and this is what was going through my mind at the time.
Interesting sidenote??? I asked her to marry me and she said yes! :)
Lyrics
This Golden Band
(Larry Lauer)
A diamond ring is what he wanted, when he walked in to the store
But his wallet held his money, and there was nothing more
He couldn’t buy the finer things, for the girl that he fell for
So he turned away and headed out, back towards the door
As he turned around his eyes had caught a shiny golden band
With his last few dollars, he had it in his hand
No diamonds or emeralds, a simple little band
He thought of what he’d say to her to make her understand
He’d say “This golden band, will keep you from the cold
We’ll walk hand in hand, until we’re gray and old
There’s more love in this ring, then any diamond will ever bring
Please give me your hand, and wear this golden band”
He left the store with a box, wrapped up in a bow
A little pretty box, filled with all his hope
The night was coming down, people on the go
Lovers holding hands, whispering so low
His hands started trembling, when he looked into her eyes
He almost turned around, he’d never been this scared before
In his eyes he saw the love, he wanted by his side
He took that box from his pocket and put his fear aside
And said…
***chorus***
Now there’s quiet in the night, the lights are turned down low
She’d cried when he asked her, she’d taken off that bow
Now she’s sleeping like an angel, her breathing soft and slow
She had looked at him so sweet and soft and with her eyes aglow
She’d said “ This golden band, will keep us from the cold
We’ll walk hand in hand, until where gray and old
There’s more love in this ring, then any diamond will ever bring
Take my hand…and I’ll wear this golden band
Repeat chorus
