Story behind the song
The death of Billy Walker. I wanted to honor him in a song. I have met him and talked with him at for some time and I did feel like I had lost a friend.
Lyrics
Last night I dreamed I went to a place that was far beyond the sky And seen the show of all shows that made me laugh and cry As I walked through two huge golden doors I was ushered down to the front of a golden stage Heavenly music started playing as a golden curtin went up There on that stage was the biggest names in Country Music At a golden piano was none other than Floyd Cramer Next to him was Chet Atkins playing a pure gold guitar They were playing a song I recognized when five men stepped up to golden microphones In the middle was Hank Williams singing "I Saw The Light". To his right was Marty Robbins and Jim Reeves. To his left was George Morgan and Johnny Cash. Behind them was a big choir all dressed in white robes. I Couldn't see all of them, but just to name a few There was June Carter, and the Original Carter Family. Patsy Cline and her friend Dottie West. I seen The Jordanaires, Ernest Tubb, Don Gibson and Skeeter Davis. Minnie Pearl and Roy Acuff. Faron Young. Bill Monroe, Cowboy Copas and The Wilburn Brothers. Elvis was there and Billy Walker, the latest star to arrive. I was glad I had received a ticket to see this fantastic show, and sit on the front row. Then all of a sudden, I woke up and found it was a dream. The sweetest, happiest dream I've ever had. A trip to the Grandest Country Show of them all. My hope is that some day I get to see the rest of the show I missed last night. The Grandest Country Show of All. words and music by Don Armstrong
